Optus NSW state manager Rick Graham said work had already begun.
“As the mobile towers in Gunnedah are being upgraded, there will be some service interruptions for Optus mobile customers while this essential work is being completed,” Mr Graham said.
“Optus aims to complete these works as quickly as possible in order to keep service interruptions to a minimum.
“We know this may be frustrating, and we thank customers for their patience while the upgrade work is being completed. These upgrades will bring us closer to introducing 4G services to Gunnedah.”
Optus said 4G services would mean “superfast” mobile internet speeds for customers with compatible 4G mobile phones and tablets, and also mean a better service for 3G customers.
“It’s an exciting time as we’re bringing 4G to Optus customers in Gunnedah for the first time,” Mr Graham said.
“This will provide customers with a faster mobile internet experience and bring competition and choice in 4G services across Australia.”
The upgrades are part of a 4G expansion program that will bring the Optus 4G Plus network to regional areas across Australia.
Telsta already has 4G coverage in Gunnedah with most areas having a typical download speed of 2 to 50Mbps.
Telstra also has patches in Gunnedah where 4GX, with download speeds of up to 75Mbps is available, and larger areas just west of Gunnedah where only 3G is available.
