One-hundred-and-sixty pieces were displayed in the Gunnedah Town Hall, including 150 quilts and 10 wall hangings and table runners. Exhibitors were from Gunnedah, Narrabri, Wee Waa,
Curlewis, Boggabri and Coonabarabran.
Sisters Allison Riley and Leesa Cupitt said they organised the huge event to bring all the local quilt and sowing groups together to “showcase their abilities”.
Ms Cupitt said people attended from all over the district, particularly families with teenagers.
“We ended up walking around with them, explaining techniques,” she said.
“They were really enthusiatic.”
Ms Cupitt said all of the feedback had been “very positive”.
“There were several comments about the quality of the work being equivalent or better than the quality at the Sydney Quilt Show this year,” she said.
“One of our local doctors purchased an incredible quilt for his surgery.”
According to Ms Cupitt, the event showcased “every possible discipline in the quilting sphere”, with quilts ranging from traditional and contemporary, to modern. Nancy Ryan from Narrabri won the People’s Choice Award with her traditional quilt titled “Len’s Golliwogs”.
Ms Cupitt said she “thoroughly enjoyed” the weekend and was thankful to all of the volunteers.
“It couldn’t have happened without them,” she said.
“We can’t wait to do it again in two years’ time.”
