A march was held in Breeza, with veterans, their families and school children taking part in the short journey to the town’s cenotaph.
The march was led by piper Gavin Shaw from Quirindi, followed by cadet Ben Hamparsun with his horse Ari, then organiser Marleen Neader holding the Australian flag with her grandson Bryce Neader.
Speaker John Rennick, formerly of Piallaway, read Gallipoli diary entries of P.E Drain from Forbes and recited from memory Rupert McCall’s poem A Hundred Years From Now.
Wreaths were laid by veterans and family members in honour of the fallen and Sue Etheridge played The Last Post and The Reveille.
Mrs Neader said a number of the men present were the sons of veterans who used to march when she was a child. She said she has taken part in the Breeza service for 14 years and felt this year’s event was “excellent” and had “a really good roll-up”.
“I don’t think we’ve ever had a crowd like that.”
Following the service, a morning tea was held in the Breeza Hall, with a special cake cut in honour of the Anzac event.
