This year was the 127th anniversary of the annual show, an agricultural extravaganza steeped in years of tradition.
Gunnedah Show Society president Rob Witts said this year’s event attracted a huge crowd.
“We had a much better attendance than last year because the weather was perfect,” Mr Witts said.
From livestock to art and photography, puppet shows, cooking, the animal nursery and young farmer challenges, there was something on offer for everyone.
Mr Witts said all sections were well supported.
“Three days of horse events always attract record numbers, and we had a new layout this year in the arena which proved to be popular,” Mr Witts said.
“In the fat lambs, we didn’t have any entries last year and this year we had 18 pens, which is great to see.
“The cattle and pig numbers and quality were also good. Overall, all livestock entries were really good.”
Mr Witts said the woodchop event gathered interest with the grandstand packed to capacity throughout the day and the pavilion a hive of activity.
The show is a culmination of thousands of hours of hard work by dedicated volunteers, as well as countless hours spent preparing exhibits and entries by members of the local community.
“I would like to thank all the conveners, volunteers, sponsors and entrants – without them the show just doesn’t happen,” Mr Witts said.
“I have received such great positive comments from everyone I have talked to since the show.
“It’s such a fantastic community event.”
The show was officially opened by NSW Farmers Association president Fiona Simson, following the grand parade on Saturday afternoon.
Young vocalist Sara Dear, accompanied by the Gunnedah Shire Band, led the crowd in the National Anthem.
While the clean-up is over for this year, planning will soon begin for next year’s show.
“I’m hoping next year is run as smoothly and is as popular and successful as this one,” Mr Witts said.
The next event on the Gunnedah Show Society calendar is the showjumping festival held in June.
