The front page photo (March 24) of Mr Baxter’s funeral cortege was indelicate.
Michael Baxter was an important citizen of Gunnedah but prominence does not mean the funeral cortege and mourning family should be snapped for the local newspaper. The photo of the celebrity son-in-law was inappropriate.
It would have been appropriate to dedicate the front page to the late Mr Baxter using a portrait of him and an accompanying story about him.
Funerals are usually private and sombre. Even the family of public figures such as the head of state or prime minister deserve courtesy and dignity.
Please don’t let our award-winning, dependable, popular, local newspaper become an “egg-timer” or a “rag”.
