This year’s Week of Speed will definitely go down as one of the more memorable ones simply because of the amount of of events that were on offer over the past few weekends.
There was something for everyone, whether that be the Firefighting Championships, Air Spectacular, Speedway, drag racing and of course this weekend’s Hillclimb, there was lots of variety and it helped expose people to different types of motor racing, which can only be a good thing.
We need more of it and hopefully we see more variety next year.
This year’s Hillclimb should be great to watch as it’s a brilliant trial of man and machine and is an extremely well run event put on by the Gunnedah Motoring Enthusiasts.
If you are a fan of grassroots motorsport and the variety of cars, it is worth going to.
With all the upgrades to Apex Road over the next couple of years, it will be an ever-better event. Once it becomes part of the State Championship, the variety of cars will be better as we should see open wheelers, sports sedans, hillclimb specials and even ex V8 Supercars roaring up the hill.
While the Week of Speed ends this weekend, it isn’t the end of Gunnedah’s involvement, as the Keam family will be participating at the Bathurst Motor Festival over the Easter weekend.
While most people will be participating in various Easter traditions, the Keams will be racing around Australia’s most famous racing circuit with a massive field of Heritage Touring Cars (formerly known as Group A/C) in their former Bob Holden Motors/Shell Ford Escort.
I’d like to wish them the best of luck as it not only a big weekend for their class, but also to the Keams as they have the privilege of racing on what is one of the world’s most revered pieces of tarmac.
