Gunnedah’s Joe Hillard said the new policy, which also includes the reinstatement of transport subsidies for stock and fodder, delivered practical drought assistance to help farmers through the tough times.
The Coalition controversially dumped its declaration system after a review of drought assistance two years ago.
“The Coalition abolishing the system of declaring drought areas seemed like a retrograde step,” Mr Hillard said.

Labor said it was “our communal obligation” to support farmers.
