Staff from Shenhua Watermark Coal visited the children dressed in Chinese costume yesterday.
Kathy Wu said Chinese New Year, which begins today, was a time of celebration, with children given new clothes and red envelopes containing money.
The children heard about the animals that feature in each Chinese year, with this year dedicated to the sheep or goat.
The celebration lasts about 15 days.
Winanga-Li was decorated with Chinese lanterns and decorations, and the children played with dragon puppets.
