Mrs Simson’s four-year term with the agricultural lobby groups ends in July.
Given she cannot stand again, she has taken up a position as a non-executive director on the board of NSW NRMA.
Beginning on January 19, the Gunnedah shire landholder will be responsible for helping guide the organisation, including strategy; ensuring people’s voices east of the range are heard and addressing congestion on the coast.
Mrs Simson said many of the issues she faced with NSW Farmers overlapped into her new role with the NRMA, and many constituents are members of the motoring lobby group.
Representing the western region, including Gunnedah and the New England and north-west, Mrs Simson said she understood the regional issues and was passionate about country communities.
“I’m here to represent members. The biggest issues facing NSW are fuel pricing and fuel availability and roads and road infrastructure.
“We need to make sure there is a strategic program for funding and maintenance for all roads and that regional NSW gets its fair share,” she said.
Mrs Simson said it was an interesting time to be joining the NRMA where there is a lot of discussion about fuel pricing; seeing regional people be active and being involved with actively lobbying.
