The event at the Town Hall marked the start of the shire’s long weekend festivities and attracted a large crowd.
Emcee Michael Ruff kicked off the proceedings with the introduction of Gunnedah Australia Day ambassador, Peter Berner.
The stand-up comedian ensured the crowd was in fits of laughter, having had success locally and internationally as a frequent act on the comedy festival circuit in Australia and the UK.
Australia Day Committee Chair Cr Steve Smith recognised the efforts and the calibre of the nominees, particularly in the Young Citizen category, and praised the work of the PCYC which catered the dinner.
The award winners were:
• Citizen of the Year (40+): Cheryl Sharman
• ?Citizen of the Year (21-40 years): Ainslie Burgess
• ?Young Citizen: (21 years and under): Grace Turner
• ?Ossie and Beryl Campbell Volunteer of the Year: Crystal Neal
• ?Max and Mikie Maas Good Neighbour Award: Gunnedah HACC MSW volunteers
• ?Cultural Award: The Gunnedah Historical Society.
• ?Community Achievement Award: Garry Dunkley.
• ?Eve Turner Perpetual Award for seniors: Harold Hills.
Best Decorated Table: Gunnedah High School (Josh Day, Courtney Brandon and Alexandria Koenig).
