General manager Eric Groth tabled a report on merger discussions held with Liverpool Plains on November 10.
The report stated discussions were “positive and productive” and the two councils would investigate opportunities for resource sharing.
“However, with reference to a possible merger, Liverpool Plains Shire Council indicated that presently they were not inclined to explore a merger with Gunnedah Shire Council,” a council statement said.
Gunnedah Shire Council will extend the Gunnedah and Curlewis Kerbside Recycling contract with Gunnedah Workshop Enterprises Ltd for another five years.
The council will also extend the land lease agreement for a five-year period.
Gunnedah Shire Council will lodge an application to the National Stronger Regions Fund seeking $325,000 in grant funding to install flood lighting at Donnelly Fields.
Any funding that is sourced through the National Stronger Regions Fund will be matched by funds from the Whitehaven Community Embellishment Fund providing a total of $650,000 to undertake the project.
Council will begin paving the forecourt immediately in front of the Smithurst Theatre.
Council approved a report requesting the work, worth $19,500, go ahead. The report to council noted staff had struggled to maintain the grass and at certain times of the year, the area was just bare earth.
