Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson’s office said this morning they had received more than 750 letters and faxes from people who had voiced a vote of no confidence in the council.
Mr Anderson has said he will pass on the letters and faxes to NSW Local Government Minister Paul Toole.
Early Facebook statements on new site “People’s Voice for Gunnedah” said 500 letters were needed to gain a foothold for the move.
But a spokesperson for the NSW Office of Local Government said there was “no formal statutory mechanism that would allow for a vote of no confidence in a council”.
“Ultimately, all communities have an opportunity to pass judgement on the performance of their councils at local government elections held every four years,” the spokesperson said.
