Just days out from the Gunnedah Bulldogs grand final clash against North Tamworth, captain Trent Hilton scooped an early season reward.
Hilton was named the Group 4 Rugby League Player of the Year at the annual presentation evening in Gunnedah last night.
The stoic Bulldogs forward led the pack with 14 votes for the year, two clear of Narrabri’s Lachlan Cameron on 12 votes.
Jake Cocking from North Tamworth and Wests Lions’ Tom Hine shared third spot on 11 votes each.
Hilton headlined a great night of recognition for the Bulldogs’ club.
Bulldog Matt Hassan won the Under-18 Player of the Year gong, while team-mates Kih McDonald and Hayden Smith shared the highest try scorers accoldaes with six each for the season.
No to be outdone, Gunnedah Ladies League Tag player Jess Baker also won the highest points score honours in the Group 4 competition.
Baker’s 12 tries and 37 goals was by far the best of the pack, from Tiahna Paulson’s six tries, 44 goals.
The awards set the stage for Sunday as Hilton’s Bulldogs prepare for the much anticipated clash in the 2014 Group 4 Grand Final.
