Fire and Rescue NSW Gunnedah were called to the house at 2.21am to find it completely engulfed in flames.
“The house was well and truly alight when we arrived,” Station Commander Rod Byrnes said.
Local firefighters fought the fire from the outside of the premises before attempting to extinguish it from the rear of the building.
“We had a few challenges, including fallen power lines, which restricted access to the house,” he said.
Essential Energy cut power to the residence, allowing better access to the fire.
Firefighters conducted an initial search of the building and found no one at home.
The iconic weatherboard house was completely destroyed by the fire.
Twelve local firefighters, as well as RFS, police, ambulance and Essential Energy were also at the scene.
Police investigators are at the site today to determine the cause of the fire.
