With the season quickly slipping away, the Dogs are struggling to avoid the dreaded Spoon and face a tough task at home this weekend when they host second-placed outfit, the high-flying Inverell Saints.
Things looked good early on Saturday against the Tamworth Kangaroos with captain-coach John Woolaston and Andrew George shining early .
The players dug deep in the early exchanges with Jordan Mulherin, Ryan Cooper, Luke Curgenven, Al Hillard and James Mack stepping up to the Kangaroos in the early exchanges.
However as the game progressed the more physical home side gradually got on top and sloppy defence and a string of mistakes allowed the Kangaroos to run away with the match 20.9.129 to 7.6.48.
Woolaston sounded a grim warning after the match, citing a drop off of numbers at training as one of the most worrying aspects for the club.
According to Woolaston there were only eight players at training on both nights.
Woolaston is appealing to players to get behind the side in the final games of the season and off-load the Spoon to Tamworth Swans which sit only one game above the Dogs on the ladder.
