Council general manager Eric Groth confirmed yesterday he had received a rescission motion signed by councillors Colleen Fuller and Gwen Griffen.
Mr Groth said a rescission motion needed to be officially signed by three councillors, and he had received confirmation that Cr David Quince would also sign the motion, making it official.
“It is now up to council to determine the next step,” Mr Groth said.
Council could address the issue at the next full council meeting, but Mr Groth said that was not until August 27.
He said it was more likely council would consider the motion at an extraordinary meeting which could be called on the same day as the Works and Services Committee and Planning and Development Committee meetings on August 6.
If an extraordinary meeting is called, it will still be a public meeting.
Council voted last week to move the centre from its existing location in South Street to the Mooki Room in the Civic Centre.
Councillors Fuller, Griffen, Quince and Steve Smith voted against the move. Cr Tim Duddy was not at the meeting, and Mayor Owen Hasler used his casting vote to break the deadlock and pass the recommendation.
The move follows several reports to council stating the Visitor Information Centre was not attracting as many visitors as it should, partly due to its location.
