According to the 26-year-old singer songwriter and photographer, who now lives in Newcastle, there were only two options for her love life before applying for the show – “joining a nunnery or cancelling her phone contract”.
Describing herself as “unlucky in love”, when a call out for women to apply for The Bachelor Australia on Facebook in February caught her eye, the two-time Golden Guitar nominee jumped at the chance.
“I have been single for almost 12 months now,” Katrina said.
“I’ve had some incredible people come into my life, but no one that has worked out in the end.
“I’m a huge fan of the show and have had a massive crush on every bachelor and I thought it was time to try another avenue, so I applied.”
Katrina is on a quest for romance with 23 other bachelorettes from across Australia to vie for the heart of Perth heartthrob Blake Garvey.
“I literally applied on the cut-off date, so when I was contacted to say I was shortlisted for auditions, I was so excited,” Katrina said.
It was a few weeks of anticipation following auditions and phone interviews before Katrina was successfully named a contestant.
“Besides my incredible head of hair, honesty is my biggest asset and sometimes greatest liability, but I think the producers were drawn to my bubbly personality and my openness,” she said.
Katrina described the tall, dark and handsome, 31-year-old real estate auctioneer as “dreamy”.
“He completely blew me away and has turned me into a silly little blonde giggly girl,” Katrina said.
“He has a gorgeous voice and is a very smooth talker.”
Katrina said she was looking for her “twin flame” when it comes to love.
“Someone who is equal in strength, equal in openness and equal in creativity, and my fire of ambition would be a plus,” Katrina said.
“We will just have to wait and see if that is Blake.”
With the show still in production, Katrina wasn’t giving away any secrets, but said she has made friends for life with the other contestants.
“The other girls are beautiful – we may be fighting for Blake’s attention, but we are also fighting because we love the life in the house and we don’t want to leave,” she said.
The ultimate lovestory would result in Katrina receiving a red rose from Blake.
“To be honest, I feel really confident within myself, I think I’m the best version of myself – he’d be a fool to not give me a rose,” Katrina said.
If she makes it to the hometown dates where contestants show Blake where they grew up, Katrina said Gunnedah was shortlisted.
“It was incredibly hard to keep it all a secret,” Katrina said. “The word is out now though, my mum and my best friend were the only ones who knew, because if I just suddenly disappeared they would send out a search party.”
While Katrina wasn’t giving away whether she sings to Blake, the latest commercial shows her with guitar in hand offering to serenade him. Channel Ten told the NVI “she wows him with a first impression”.
The Bachelor Australia premieres on Channel Ten on Wednesday, July 30 at 7.30pm.
