Mr Anderson said the meeting, held in Tamworth on Tuesday, was a great opportunity to meet face to face to further push for the resources needed to get on top of crime and drugs in our region.
“To have the state’s senior police in Tamworth was a real indication of how seriously they are taking our push to have more resources allocated to the Oxley Local Area Command and I believe they were sympathetic towards the challenges we face.
“A very strong case was put to them and they will now consider in detail our requests. Every region across NSW is calling for more resources so I have to make sure that our region stays front of mind when the state allocates those resources.
“Deputy Commissioner Kaldas outlined that in terms of fighting drugs, the best option would be to boost the numbers of police in the local Target Action Group (TAG). This is a proactive policing unit, able to be tasked when needed to combat areas such as drugs and gives the local commander the flexibility to manage the crime needs across the command.
“Superintendent Adney was looking very closely at the need for a dog unit in the local command and was also currently weighing up the work load across the region. These factors will help form the decision of whether to base a dog unit in Tamworth.
“It’s been a long journey so far but I will not give up on supporting our local police and our community in trying to make our streets safe again and I will be continuing to push for an outcome.”
