As the Hollywood star prepares to film her World War II film Unbroken in Australia, she toured the historic railway station and visited a house in Punyarra Street, before dining at the Werris Creek Bowling and Tennis Club for lunch.
It’s understood the architecture of the buildings in Werris Creek will provide an ideal backdrop for the movie, which is backed by Universal Pictures, one of Hollywood’s major studios.
It was announced this week by the State Government the production will shoot scenes in Sydney and regional locations.
While Ms Jolie has not confirmed filming will occur in Werris Creek, it does seem likely given her return to the village.
Ms Jolie first stunned locals when she boarded a commercial Qantas flight from Sydney to Tamworth on September 11, and scouted film locations in the village of 1500 people.
The movie Unbroken is based on the best-selling book by Laura Hillenbrand, and follows the incredible life story of Olympian and war hero, Louis Zamperini, who, along with two other crewmen, survived in a raft for 47 days after a near-fatal plane crash in WWII, only to be caught by the Japanese Navy and sent to a prisoner-of-war camp.
The movie is Angelina Jolie’s second directorial foray after the critically acclaimed and Golden Globe nominated In The Land of Blood And Honey.
“Securing production of Unbroken in NSW will inject millions of dollars into the State’s economy and is expected to create more than 300 jobs for NSW-based crew alone, and more for cast and extras,” NSW Deputy Premier Andrew Stoner said.
“This great news confirms NSW’s international status as Australia’s premier location for large-scale film production and demonstrates the world class standards of our film production industry.
“We’re expecting that some of the visual effects work for the film will also be undertaken by NSW companies.”
