“These players will be excellent leaders and we seem blessed by a new wave of members happy to work for their own improvement and for the betterment of the whole band,” Mr Rowe said.
“While the number of entries from other bands was disappointing, the quality of performance by GSB members was of a very high standard.
“I am extremely proud of everyone, particularly those who put in the tough yards to ensure their playing was as good as it could be.”
Mr Rowe said the wonderful standard of playing in the horn sections was “very classy”.
“The success of Carla Douglas and Annerley Fitzsimmons in the cornet sections was another highlight – having a good work ethic always pays off.”
Mr Rowe also commended the great playing of Amity Cleal and Sabastian Rowe in the under 10 section and described them as “without doubt, stars of the future”.
Zac Clarke’s playing in the snare sections was another notable performance in his first competition.
“Zac is a very bright prospect, while the wonderful playing of so many young cornet players, particularly Josh Green, was also outstanding,” he said.
Oscar King and Adam King are not brothers but they both share a huge talent for playing tuba, with a high standard on display at the titles.
Mr Rowe said Sammy Porter’s playing of Resulka in the open slow melody for cornets section “deserved to win”, with the teen placed second by the judges.
The band brought home a swag of medals in all colours, with the new younger members competing for the first time auguring well for the band’s future.
“Congratulations and thank you all for your magnificent effort,” Mr Rowe said.
