RACEGOERS kicked up their heels at Wean Picnic Races on Saturday despite the dirt and dust and wore their fashionable frocks trackside.

The bush races saw more than 2100 punters through the gates and the judges had a difficult task choosing winners as the fashion stakes were high.
The best dressed female (26 years and over) saw a huge lineup of “fashionable fillies”, but the sophisticated combination of black and white, saw Gemma Yarnold, of Walcha take home the prize, sponsored by Hassab’s Fashions Boggabri.
Shannon Small, of Gunnedah, impressed the judges with her showstopping, elegant orange and grey number and was awarded the best dressed female (25 years and under), sponsored by Lisa Dee Boutique Narrabri.
The youngsters are already showing they have a good eye for fashion, with Sophie Perkins, of Gunnedah awarded the best dressed female junior (15 years and under), sponsored by Gillwest.
Winter hats and fascinators dotted the crowd and Robyn Strang, of Tamworth impressed the judges with her wide brim accessory, taking out the prize for best female hat, sponsored by Bagley Jewellers Narrabri.
Not to be outdone, the men also showcased their fashionable attire, with Stuart Lockrey, of Manilla winning best dressed male (26 years and over), sponsored by Spurlings Formal Wear.
Gunnedah lad, Andrew Swain wore a full grey suit which won him the best dressed male (25 years and under)section, sponsored by Spurlings Formal Wear.
Young men were also dressed to impress, with Oscar King, of Gunnedah awarded best dressed male junior (15 years and under), sponsored by Gillwest.
Rob Southwell, of Narrabri was seen sporting the best male hat, sponsored by the Wean Race Club.
Punters also dressed up for fun, with helmets, 1920’s themed flapper outfits and a horse head seen trackside.
The Wean Picnic Races are a huge event on the Gunnedah and surrounds social calendar.
